My mother always said one should have one elegant black dress in the wardrobe; when one has "nothing" to wear, a dress like this comes always handy. I have more wedding photos and some wear pastel colours, the dresses do not look white, the photos are sepia and black and white; some wear quite severe black dresses, rather like to a funeral then to a wedding!Lavender and Vanilla Friends of the Gardenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05403418150146893599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3099530921726743492.post-19910310439232870412012-08-25T23:41:29.070+10:002012-08-25T23:41:29.070+10:00I am not aware that b;ack was every a colour for a...I am not aware that b;ack was every a colour for a wedding dress in the UK. Take for instance the veil, long symbol of virginity. Some brides wore one, others did not. Then fashion eliminated the veil all together but royal brides often still wear one. The same goes for the colour of the wedding dress. Nobody wears a black one these days but 100 years ago black was about the only colour. How that change came about, I don't know but it is food for thought. Judging by your pictures it changed from black via some color in between to white in just ten years time. I must say I thought the first one, of your parents, was from about two decades earlier. It's not the clothing as much as the embossed and printed card mount format that seems to me more suggestive of the 1900s or 1910s.
