Sepia Saturday; Happiness;

   I like this photo of my mother and her first Love. It was probably 1930.
   This is not my father. My mother and this man were not allowed to be together. So, my mother left and
   went to Switzerland where she met my father and they married later.
   Sometimes she went back to her hometown and on the photos one can see when she met H. again, that
   they  still had a soft spot for each other.
   I think it would have been nice for her to marry her first love. Alas I would not be here then!

Please visit Sepia Saturday to go back in time;

  1. I can see why you like this photo of your mother and her first love, it is very special. It is sad that they couldn't be together but, as you say, she wouldn't have met your father and you wouldn't be here. Everything happens for a reason.

  4. Oh they do appear to be so much in love! Yes true if they had married you'd be half of something different than today! imagine that! Sometimes I know back then when people couldn't marry later in life they met again and if the timing was right...they could be together then! great post!

  7. a touching photo and tale; well you might have been here but in a different form if your mother had been with him; then again it likely was not the right time and place and so it goes.
    I adore the rose photo on your blog..

  9. Even if never together they'll forever be together in the photo which in itself is very nice.

  11. Oregon gifts; I do not know if my father ever saw it. It was in a big old album.As a child I saw the album but I rarely looked at the pictures. it was sort of forgotten. when I was older in my teens I took out all the photos and replaced them in a newer album, I regret that now!

    Howard; Yes, I loved my father and he loved me!

  12. Thankfully she did marry your father and have you :-) A very touching photo - you never forget your first love although he's rarely the one you grow old with! Jo

  13. I wonder why they weren't allowed to be married. Did your grandparents think he was beneath her, or just didn't like him. Did your mother ever tell you the reason?

  14. Barbara and Nancy; It was my mother who told the story. Her stepmother had two sons, one married her sister, which her stepmother approved of. She did not like my mother so she did not want to see her married to one of her sons. She also had "earmarked" an other girl for her son. It was the way then. Later my mother and stepmother reconciled in a way I think, because she spend quite a bit of time with us. My mother and father were always nice to her.I knew her first son who married mums sister, my uncle Thomas well, he was very nice, a real gentleman. I corresponded with him until he died. I have never known the other son Hans who liked my mother.

    Elfe

  17. This sounds like those classic love story. Well, life has its way to trick us into things that we do not like at first but will eventually grow to like them.

  21. Horticultural greetings,

    This is to inform you that a relative, Isabel Sanchez, is moving to Australia to reside/work by the end of next month.

    I know her since she was two,it is a bright character, disconnected from nature, into banking, accountants and finance.

    I will provide her with your blog address, in case you later decide (or not to) to have some tea or one pint Harper's...

    Building fortreses and castles, still no brigges...AC
