Sepia Saturday 166; Cardboard boxes;

Cardboard boxes, we all use them. I think back when cardboard boxes were quite a rarity. If we craved one for play or other uses we had to wait a long time.  Groceries were taken home in a woven basket or a bag.
Sugar, flour etc, was stored in drawers and sold in paper or cloth bags. In the Swiss village I grew up a paper bag was called a  "Scarnuz" from the Ladin Romanisch an old Etruscan language.
Cardboard has been upcycled and recycled to make a huge array of articles.
Children and animals love them to play, to sleep and all sorts of things. My grand children loved them too.  We made tables, houses, trains anything was fun to make. Not long ago Fabrizia made a house to hide for Billy,as he is afraid of thunder.She wanted him to use it to hide, but he has never used it, which was a bit a disappointment, he rather jumps onto the sofa under a blanket!

  1. I rather like the cardboard armchair; it's very sylish, though I'm not sure how comfortable it would be!

  2. Oh my goodness, what a wonderful collection of boxes of all sorts- you did fly away with this to a wonderful box land! That armchair looks like something that would be fun and easy to put together. Probably not good for outdoors and the rain, but at work maybe! A great ice-breaker for parties too! If someone spills- it's okay get another cardboard box to replace it!

  4. Interesting things to made with cardboard. It is better than plastic even though it means cutting down trees at least it is able to be recycled.

    1. Diane,more fast growing trees should be planted for pulping, I think the time has come when all the existing, natural forests should be protected anywhere on earth.

  5. I am intrigued by the Chauffeur's Photos - what does a chauffeur have to do with photography?

    I like these paper and cardboard containers - very eco-friendly.

  6. A very interesting post for the theme - I never thought of the fact that the boxes are made of cardboard when I was deciding what to write about.

  7. Now I've seen a bed made of cardboard - unofficially for use by the night shift in a cardboard manufacturing plant.

  8. Is the 2nd to last picture of repurposed boxes? I like them. So many different takes on the theme today, yet I thought of none of them!

  9. As I have just said on another blog : boxes must be the sacred symbol of all collectors. I love all boxes, cardboard and plastic and their magical ability to translate the untidy into the organised and tidy.

    Love the Le Corbusier chair, and the hat box is certainly intriguing.
