Sepia Saturday; Josef and Anna;

This wedding has taken place in 1931 in Austria. My mothers brother Josef born 1909 and his bride Anna born 1910. Anna is wearing a white dress but not a veil. The basket with the flowers is a nice touch and there is also the ubiquitous fur on the floor.
I did not know them very well. I visited them a few time when I was a child with my mother. I remember them as friendly and loving. Anna always at her sewing machine. Josef died in 1980 and Anna a year later. They had four children.

Please visit and enjoy more Sepia Saturday posts.

  1. This is a lovely photo. Anna looks so very young, they both do. I like to think of them having a happy life together; there is always so much promise, so much hope on a wedding day.

  2. Titania, thank you so much for directing me to your post about the Knitted Twins. They sound wonderful and I can only imagine the hours of fun and adventure you had with them - also I can only imagine your devastation when your mother gave them away. Your knitted dolls would have been like my old teddy bear - priceless, full of love and stories.

  3. HelLO< Firstly, Josef is such a special name. I was very touched looking at this photo. These two loved each other very much, they are both leaning to the other..you can almost feel the anticipation of that love..they sat for the photo and yet look ready to flee... I feel as if they want it over with, to keep as a memory but just want to go off and be together...
    WONDERFUL !!!!

  7. Such sweet faces they had! And I'm intrigued with the bit of lace at Anna's collar.

  11. Love the old photos. I've been checking in on my ancestors via ancestry.com and heard from a cousin in law who had some nice info (on my side not the Austrian side). You are lucky to have the memories.
