My mother's wineglasses have a "Art Nouveau" pattern. The glasses are 80 years old. I am still using them.
when I use them I always think of the happy times we had when they were in use.
Please visit
Sepia Saturday to indulge yourself in a bit of Nostalgia.
They are such beautiful classic glasses. I have found that there is no saving things for later. We are now using our older pieces because that is what they were created for, our enjoyment.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that you use these. I would probably be overly cautious and keep them on a shelf, but Larry's right and so are you. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Do they ring like a bell when tapped? I love that sound.
ReplyDeleteLarry; it would be a shame not to use them.
ReplyDeleteChristine; I have older ones, from Peters grandma; the crystal is very fine and I am a bit scared to use them, but we still do from time to time.
Tattered and Lost; Yes, they do make a nice sound.
Glasses do seem to survive better than most other material objects. It is almost as if their very fragility protects them. And those certainly are very beautiful glasses.
ReplyDeleteBetter and more use than silos!
ReplyDeleteOh those are stunning glasses....I wish they could talk and share what they have heard over 80 years of use!
ReplyDeleteLovely glasses and it's wonderful that you use them.
ReplyDeleteOh my they look like some of mine! I have such a fondness for old glass! Lovely really!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Were they a wedding gift to your mother? Good to hear you still use them.
ReplyDeleteCynthia; I am not sure, I never asked my mother. It was sort of not important then.
ReplyDeleteLovely glasses!!
ReplyDeleteI would use them too and handle with care:)
To answer your comment about my heart of roses.
I used red carnation & red roses to create this heart for an exhibition!
The heart shaped form is made from OASIS foam.
You have so many wonderful flowers in your garden. I am sure you can make your own master piece:)
LG Gisela.
Use the glasses and enjoy them, albeit carefully. I love the flowers in your banner - they look like lilies but I've never seen such a profusion (but I am in Scotland...) Jo
ReplyDeleteGisela, your heart of roses is a masterpiece. I also like the wreath with the shells. I have lots of shells. I like their intricate patterns.
ReplyDeleteJo, this is a climber, very heavy and vigorous; Beaumontia grandiflora.
I believe in using family things everyday also.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful glasses. The photograph sparkles with the memories of other times. I'm glad you use them and enjoy the memories.
ReplyDeleteLovely glasses Titania. I too treasure the glassware and dishes that belonged to my mother. I visit estate sales often and am always sad to see cherished items on sale that the family did not want to keep. I will look for just one thing at the sales where I feel someone departed without a person to leave there memories too. I take these items and think of them when using them. I always feel like I have kept their life going by doing this.
ReplyDeleteThese must be really tough ones and your mum took great case of them, in my house, there is a reality joke. Every time I use wine glasses, one always breaks.
