Man's best friend...

..the dog is my theme for Sepia Saturday this week. I have  many, many pictures with dogs. we always had dogs and they were always part of the family. Don't  be scared I will show only a few.

I am happy to have this old photo of my grandmother , (mother of my father) and her dog Bläss. Two helpers I don't know their name. My mother mentioned that she was a very kind and loving person.

My dad and his dog Molly.

(I might have shown these photos before. I do so like these two photos.)

Rural bliss; My dear, lovely sister now 82 and I with Lumpi. In the late 1950s. We were wearing black for half a year as it was custom then, because our father had died.

My girls, puppy Dolly and I

Cleaning up the property around 1974.  There was a fire and everybody had to help, all were dirty and happy afterwards.

Jacquei and Boy; it was a good life and childhood for the girls.

They grew up together and were always good friends

Ali alias Ali Ben Ali Ben Jussef but just called Ali and Tomy was a Manx cat, he could not climb a tree because he did not have a tail just a little flap. There was a time when I could not imagine a life without them.  I remember every four legged friend with love and also with some sadness that life is so short.

I left the photos in black and white  and also those in colour as they have a certain charm as it is.

  1. I didn't realize wearing black for mourning continued so long into the 20th century.

  2. I like the photograph of your Dad and his dog. I did not know that Manx cats couldn't climb trees.

    1. He was a very special cat. We got him as tiny kitten from a friend. The kitten's mother had a problem feeding the kittens. Much later he had an accident, a car hit him and he had a fractured leg. The vet set it right but Tomy was never the same again. One wants to do the best and we did not want to let go of him then, but it was probably a mistake. It was a long time ago. I think the dogs, cats, horses and other animals we keep stay always in our hearts.

  3. I've never had a dog after I left home and I always regret that there are no photos of the ones I knew as a boy. It's so good to see dogs through the generations of a family like yours.

    1. We have so many photos of the pets. Already memories of new generation pets also from grandchildren are around as well. When I look at the photos their is always a drop of wistfulness.

  5. The secret to dogs & cats getting along is having them grow up together! What a cute picture. All your pix are equaling entertaining, of course. You & your sister looked much alike in that photo.

    1. Yes, you are right, like siblings they must get along, even if there are sometimes squabbles.

  6. I too enjoyed all the pets photos. Is it lack of balance from the tail that keeps the Manx earth-bound?

    1. That's right. It was funny watching him making a run one third up a tree and then looking down and slowly returning backwards.

  8. Any picture with a human with his/her dog is interesting and yours are very appealing. It makes me wish I had a dog of my own.

    1. Dogs are fantastic companions. Ours are treated as family. For the last 8 years I have Billy a Jack Russel perhaps with a touch of a foxie and a dachsie. He tries to speak and shows me what he wants. He is a funny little fellow. I had some lovely friends, none forgotten.

  9. A wonderful menagerie to share. Photos with pets are almost as easy to date as those with children. I also remember more dog stories better than those with kids.

    1. I have a few "kids stories" from my children and later from my grand children; I never forget, and we still love and laugh about their clever and funny philosophy.
