20th Annual Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day;

at Somerset College; my granddaughters' school.

The get together is an annual event up to year 4. As it is also Easter time, the children and grandparents bring their Easter hats for the Easter hats parade. It is a lot of fun for the children and grandparents.

Somerset College is one of three International Baccalaureate World Schools on the Gold Coast accredited to offer the IB Diploma Programme.

Poem by Kevin William Huff

Teachers
Paint their minds
and guide their thoughts
Share their achievements
and advise their faults

Inspire a Love
of knowledge and truth
As you light the path
Which leads our youth

For our future brightens
with each lesson you teach
Each smile you lengthen
Each goal you help reach

For the dawn of each poet
each philosopher and king
Begins with a Teacher
And the wisdom they bring

I hope Friday the 26.of March was a happy day for you too.

  1. Titania,
I was interested in your IB program. Our school is trying to start one in the lower years. We have AP in our high school now, and IB would be added. It's an effort to raise scores. Did you ever see "Remember the Titans" about TC Williams HS football team /integration issues? That's us. I work for the schools and did a study in the 80's about IB and we kept the AP program. TCW is now on the "failing" list of schools, even tho 80% pass the state test and most go to excellent colleges. That means remedies are 1)close 2)become a charter school 3) fire 50% of the teachers 4)reorganize curriculum. We are a mix of upper middle class and poor, diverse and heavily non English speaking students. The problem is the learning gap between the groups. Everyone is encouraged to take harder AP courses. Testing fees are paid by the school. Students generally score well. Have you any insight on how IB would go over here? Wow sorry this is so long!

  2. What a lovely poem...and so true. Thanks for sharing your day. I especially love your photo collage of all the people and events of the day! So artistic...I wish I could do that!
