I think he missed his role in "Brideshead revisited."
Paul was Peter's, my husband's father. He was an artist mainly watercolours, a photographer and he worked in a cigarette factory as designer. He was a brilliant entertainer, very clever, but he lacked the commitment to his family. He got ill with Tuberculosis and died 1947 when he was 40 years old.

Nostalgia at its best.
He was a handsome man. He had an interesting career but TB ended a lot of lives early.
ReplyDeleteLove your old photos. My husband's mom was from Austria, now Czechoslovakia, near Zwittau site of Schindler's list. She came over at 16.
ReplyDeletethese are great photos. i am new to sepia saturday--enjoying it so far!
ReplyDeleteHe was indeed handsome. So sad that he died so early.
ReplyDeleteHe certainly has the Jeremy Irons/Anthony Andrews look about him, doesn't he? How sad that he should die so young.
ReplyDeleteGood photo! Those old b&w photos are more lasting than the coloured ones. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHe was a very handsome man, gentle and a thinker I imagine, with an artistic talent. Beautifully kept for over 60years old.The Black and white had you guessing about the colours. I imagine him with blond hair and blue eyes dressed in a grey suit.
ReplyDeleteOh, he DOES look like he just stepped out of the pages of Waugh! Such a young age to die.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these.

I Can see It.......actually, he also has the look of the British actor Dirk Bogart.
ReplyDeleteHe was such a handsome man, he could have been a star of movies. He sounds very talented, at least artistically.
ReplyDeleteYes those photos resemble Waugh characters! I wonder what a "designer" did in a cigarette factory?
ReplyDeleteGreat photographs of a handsome man. I love the details we can see in the first one. I don't know what country he lived in but I noticed that the date was November 26. I wonder if his career was more important than his family. Sad that he died so young. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the story about "lacking the commitment to his family"? He sure does look like part of "Brideshead". A great looking man!
ReplyDeleteBarbara
Great photo, shows an obviously proud man.
ReplyDeletevery dapper, indeed!
ReplyDeletei'd like to think he might have grown into a little more commitment, had he lived longer
very hollywood-ish!! handsome man. pity TB got the best of him. interesting to hear what a man did for a living, and how it didn't quite reflect the person. i can SO relate to that.

Wonderful photographs - especially when enlarged. Such style, why couldn't I ever look as groomed and stylish as that?
ReplyDeleteWhat a pity he died so young.
